This glossary defines commonly used Psoriasis terms, including products and medications used in the treatment of psoriasis and other skin conditions that co-exist with psoriasis such as acne, rosacea, eczema and dermatitis.
Ultravate®: (Halobetasol Propionate) very high potency steroid used in the treatment of skin conditions such as psoriasis.
Ultra Pulse carbon dioxide laser: produces a beam which markedly reduces the risk of injury such as burns to the skin. It has been used as a topical skin treatment for laser skin resurfacing, to improve facial wrinkles, aging signs, and acne scars.
Ultraviolet light: the part of sunlight that has a short wavelength and encompasses the wavelengths that treat the symptoms of psoriasis. This type of light can also cause sunburn.
Urticaria: hives (red, raised bumps), often after exposure to an allergen, at the beginning of flares, or after exercise or a hot bath. Commonly occurs in atopic dermatitis.
