This glossary defines commonly used Psoriasis terms, including products and medications used in the treatment of psoriasis and other skin conditions that co-exist with psoriasis such as acne, rosacea, eczema and dermatitis.
Xeroderma Pigmentosum a rare skin condition in which the skin is highly sensitive to sunlight (photosensitive), may experience symptoms of premature skin aging and is prone to developing skin cancers. Xeroderma pigmentosum is characterized by multiple pigmented spots and larger atrophic lesions, and a glossy white thinning of the skin. The pigmented spots may have the appearence of freckles.
Xerosis the medical term for dry skin. Often seen as a symptom of eczema and atopic dermatitis. Conditions that cause include xerosis include the lower humidity of the sir in winter, frequent washing, contact with hot water, the use of soaps and detergents, and older age.
Xerosis Cutisa dehydrated skin condition of the skin with symptoms of erythema, dry scaling, fine cracking, and pruritus, which occurs chiefly during the winter when low humidity in heated rooms cause excessive water loss from the stratum corneum. Called also asteatosis, asteatotic eczema, eczema craquelé, pruritus hiemalis, winter itch, and Xerotic Dermatitis.
Xerostomia also known as dry mouth can be a symptom of certain diseases. Many medications used to treat skin conditions can cause dry mouth as a side effect of treatment.
Xerotic Dermatitis: a dehydrated skin condition of the skin whose symptoms include: erythema, dry scaling, fine cracking, and pruritus, which occurs chiefly during the winter when low humidity in heated rooms cause excessive water loss from the stratum corneum.
